Thomas Clay Farrar

Thomas Clay Farrar is my 3xgreatgrandfather. I know that he fought in the Civil War as a Confederate from the State of Arkansas.  I am fairly certain that this is the father of James Thomas Farrar.  I'm hoping that finding his actual pension record and looking at the actual paperwork might shed more light on his children so I can make sure it is him.  Or finding an obituary of some kind for him will help as well.  Until that time, here is his family sheet from Family Tree Maker:

Thomas Clay Farrar was born on 01 Sep 1844 in Perry, Alabama, USA. He died on 07 Mar 1902 in Ashley, Arkansas, USA (Rawls Cemetery). When he was 21, He married Mary Catherine Geddie on 21 Nov 1865 in Ashley, Arkansas, USA.

Thomas Clay Farrar was buried in Ashley, Arkansas, USA (Geddie-Rawls Cemetery).  1870 he lived in Egypt, Ashley, Arkansas, USA He lived in Egypt, Ashley, Arkansas, USA in 1880. He lived in Egypt, Ashley, Arkansas, USA in 1900.  1870 and 1900 Census records are listed below, the other Census record can be looked at by clicking the link.

Thomas Clay Farrar and Mary Catherine Geddie had the following children:

William Harrison Farrar was born on 06 Sep 1866. He died in 1876.  He was 9 or 10 when he died.  I'm sure that whatever happened was written down in the newspaper.
James Thomas Farrar - His pages are here and here.
John Wesley Farrar - done with as much as I have right now.
Robert Eddings Farrar - his page is done, working on his children now.
Walter Emmett Farrar - page coming soon.

James Thomas Farrar - Information

I have all of the previous media files for him listed here.

This page is going to be used to determine who his father was.  I have seen lots of trees that tell me that his father is Thomas Clay Farrar, and while Thomas Clay Farrar does have a son named James, born about the same time as "our" James.  I want to make sure it's the same person.  Here is the 1880 Census that lists Thomas Clay Farrar living in  Egypt, Ashley County, Arkansas.  His oldest son listed is James.  I have done a search for anyone else the same age as James, living in the same area of Arkansas, and I haven't found any other families.  Therefore, I tend to agree with the people who say that James Thomas' father is Thomas Clay Farrar.  I will look for a will/death record for Thomas Clay that may list any of his children or grandchildren, which will give me a better idea. Also, if you are searching for this record on either familysearch.org or ancestry.com you will find that his name has been indexed as "Junior", so don't search for James.

Action Items:
1. Check death records for Thomas Clay Farrar.
